Professor Ghassan Al-Maamouri, a faculty member at our college, has translated a book from Spanish entitled “Basic Law No. 3 of 2018 on the Protection of Personal Data and the Guarantee of Digital Rights of the Kingdom of Spain,” making it available to Arab researchers in general, and Iraqis in particular, for use in relevant legal studies.
The book discusses this law as one of the most prominent European laws in the field of data protection. It enshrines the fundamental right of natural persons to control their personal data and provides the legal framework to address the challenges posed by globalization and modern digital technology. It complements the European General Data Protection Regulation No. 679 of 2016 (GDPR) and aims to enhance transparency, privacy, and legal certainty in data handling.
The translated law includes 97 legal articles, in addition to sixteen special provisions amending other legislative texts to align them with new European requirements. It is worth noting that Dr. Al-Maamouri previously translated the current Iraqi Nationality Law No. 26 of 2006 and the amended Foreign Investment Law No. 13 of 2006 into Spanish. This contributes to familiarizing Spanish-speaking citizens and investors with the Iraqi Nationality Law and the Foreign Investment Law, particularly by informing foreign investors of the opportunities and guarantees contained in these laws.
He also translated a book entitled “Private International Law and the Law of the Council of State of the Kingdom of Spain” from Spanish. These achievements contribute to enriching the legal library and those interested in reviewing comparative laws and their application in legal studies.
