Assistant Professor Dr. Aqeel Karim Zaghir, a professor of commercial law at our college, participated in a committee discussing a doctoral dissertation in the private law branch on the legal regulation of non-traditional trademarks – a comparative study, submitted by student Iman Faleh Hadi.
The study aimed to understand non-traditional trademarks, explain their concept and distinguishing characteristics, and clarify their legal requirements. It also explored the legal procedures related to registering this new type of trademark in comparative legislation.
The study concluded that the reason for the failure to activate the registration of non-traditional trademarks in Iraq, despite the Iraqi legislature’s recognition of these types of trademarks, is the practical difficulties associated with their registration. Furthermore, non-traditional trademarks, in all their forms, were created as a result of the development of commercial and marketing methods.
