The College of Law discusses the Protection Against Domestic Violence Law in Parliament.
Professor Diaa Al-Asadi, Professor of Criminal Law at the College of Law / University of Karbala, participated in the discussion session on the Protection Against Domestic Violence Law, which took place at the Muhammad Reda al-Shabibi Hall in the Iraqi Parliament
Important results were reached, including:
Restatement of some texts contained in this law in line with the constitution in addition to the legal formula in legislation ..
With the omission of some articles from this law, whether they are duplicated or originally found in the Iraqi Penal Code, or that they are inconsistent with the social nature of Iraqi society, as well as deviating from the basic principles of the Islamic religion …
Among the recommendations that I recommend is that the texts of the law be accurate in drafting and developing an accurate concept to define domestic violence and not expand at the expense of the legality of crimes and penalties …
The participants in this discussion session recommended the creation of the Supreme Council for Women and Childhood, to take upon itself the protection of the family and childhood from domestic violence crimes, as is the case in European and Arab countries.
On the other hand, this Council and its creation are within the competence of the Council of Ministers without reference to the Council of Representatives.
